Professional Food & Product Styling
Take Your Product Photography To Another Level
What is “Food Styling”?
Food and product photography is a still life photography genre used to create attractive still life photographs of food and products. Professional photography is often a collaborative effort, often involving a stylist. A food stylist's job is to help create the kind of irresistible images that make you want to lick the page they're printed on!
The Role of The Food Stylist
The role of the food stylist is to make the food look attractive in the finished photograph. The time and effort a stylist takes to carefully and artfully arrange the food, is the cause of differences between the way the stylist presents it and the way a home cook or chef may. Visual know-how is also a requirement, as is the knowledge of how to translate the perception of taste, aroma and appeal that one gets from an actual dish, to a two-dimensional photograph.
Food stylists often have some culinary training; in addition to knowledge of nutrition and cooking techniques, food stylists must also be resourceful shoppers. As creative professionals they envision the finished photograph and style the food accordingly.
It's Not Just About Food!
Originally an old school stylist doing interiors, fashion, textile window dressing, prop styling, food props, room sets....Jo now specialises in food styling. She most definitely has the Northern down to earth, realistic & hard working attitude. She adores working with clients and with teams. With an unrivalled creative spark and clients from Accrington to SE Asia, she may be Northern but she travels very, very well. Jo has worked for huge corporations & tiny startups, so the size of the brief is no issue for her.
