Simple SEO Tips for Those Who Don’t Want to Learn Tech

Let’s be honest - SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) can sound intimidating.

It’s full of jargon, conflicting advice, and endless checklists. And if you’re a small business owner just trying to get your website noticed, it can feel like a whole new language you never signed up to learn.

But here’s the good news:

You don’t need to become an SEO expert to start getting results.

There are a few small, simple things you can do right now to help your website show up better in search engines without the overwhelm. This post is for the small business owner who’d rather spend time serving clients than learning algorithms.

Let’s keep it easy and actionable.

What even is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation - aka the process of making your website more findable on Google (or other search engines, but let’s be real, it’s mostly Google).

When someone searches for what you do, you want your website to ideally be one of the first results they see. That’s the goal of SEO.

1. Use real words that your clients are searching for

Think about what your ideal clients type into Google. Not industry jargon, the real words. For example:

Instead of: “Transformational empowerment journey coaching”

Try: “Life coaching for women in midlife”

Add these phrases naturally to your page titles, headings, and body text.

2. Name your images properly

Instead of uploading an image called “IMG_4767.jpg”, rename it to something descriptive, like “life-coach-in-derbyshire.jpg”.

Bonus tip: Make sure you add alt text (a short description) to every image in Wix. It’s good practice for SEO and accessibility.

3. Write clear page titles and meta descriptions

These are the little bits of text that show up in Google search results.

Page Title is the headline

Meta Description is the short summary below it

Make sure each page on your site has a unique, keyword-rich title and description.

In Wix, you can set these under the “SEO Basics” settings for each page.

4. Start a blog (yes, even if you’re not a writer)

Blog posts are a great way to add fresh content and use keywords your clients are searching for.

You don’t have to write weekly essays. A short post once or twice a month is plenty and guess what? You already have lots to say (you answer client questions every day!).

5. Connect your Wix site to Google Search Console

Wix makes this easy. It tells Google your site exists and helps you track how you’re performing in search results.

Go to Settings → SEO Tools → Site Verification in your Wix dashboard.

Finally...

Remember: SEO is a slow burn, not a quick win. Think of it like planting seeds. The more helpful, keyword-rich content you add to your site, the more likely Google is to show it to people searching for what you do.

And just like with gardening, you don’t have to do it all at once.

Think of SEO like planting seeds.
