What I Wish Every Woman Knew Before Starting a Website

If you’re building your first website (whether yourself or with a designer), or even thinking about it, there’s a good chance you feel a mix of excitement… and overwhelm.
You want to get it right. You’ve got ideas, maybe a logo, colours you love… but you’re not quite sure what goes where, or how to bring it all together.
Over the years, I’ve worked with so many incredible women who started their websites with the best of intentions but ended up confused, stuck, or disappointed.

So here’s what I wish every woman knew before starting their website. Because a little guidance at the start can save a lot of stress later on.
1. It’s not just about design - it’s about strategy
A beautiful website that doesn’t help your business grow… isn’t doing its job.
Before you pick fonts or colours, ask:
Who am I trying to reach?
What do I want them to do?
What do I want my website to achieve?
That’s your starting point.
2. Your website doesn’t have to be perfect - it just has to be you
So many women delay launching their site because they’re waiting until it’s “perfect.”
Spoiler: websites are never finished. They grow with you.
It’s far better to start with something simple, clear and aligned with your brand and then improve it over time.
3. You don’t need to do it all yourself
DIY is great if you enjoy learning and have time on your hands. But if you’re busy running your business (or life!), there’s no shame in asking for help.
Whether that’s a designer, a coach, or even a free planning worksheet, support makes everything easier. Reach out, ask for help - it's OK not to know everything!
4. Content takes longer than you think
... (and it matters more than you expect)
Most of the delays I see in web projects? They’re caused by writing content.
But good content is what connects you to your audience. It’s what sells your service, builds trust, and gets people clicking that “book now” button.
Make space for content in your process and get help if you need it.
5. Your website is for your clients, not just about you
It should reflect your personality, yes - but also speak directly to your ideal audience. Answer their questions. Show them you understand. Help them feel seen.
This creates connection and connection leads to conversions.
6. You deserve a website that works for you
Whether you’re DIYing your site, hiring a designer, or not sure where to start, remember this:
You are not behind
You are not bad at tech
You are not the only one who finds it overwhelming
And you don’t have to figure it all out alone
I offer planning support, done-for-you design, and friendly advice to help you get clear, get confident, and build a website that truly works for you.
