DIY or Done-for-You Websites?

How to Decide What Kind of Website Help You Need

If you’re thinking about creating or updating your website, you might be wondering:

Should I do it myself… or hire someone to help?

It’s a common dilemma especially for micro and small business owners. Maybe you’ve had a go at DIY, or maybe you’re worried about the cost of hiring someone.

Either way, the choice depends on a few key factors: your time, your budget, your confidence, and your goals.

Let’s break it down...

The DIY Route

DIY can be a great option if:

  • You’re just starting out and need to keep costs down

  • You enjoy learning new tools like Wix

  • You have time to experiment

  • You’re confident writing your own content

Benefits:

Challenges:

More control over your website

Lower upfront cost

You can update it anytime and you work at a time to suit you

It takes longer - especially if tech isn’t really your thing

You might hit frustrating roadblocks that can cause you more stress than you need

It’s easy to miss strategic elements that impact results (like SEO or user flow/user journey)

You may not be very pleased with the look and feel of it if design and/or copywriting isn't one of your strengths

DIY works best when you have time, patience, and access to good support or training (like my Website Planning Course - coming soon!).

The Done-for-You (DFY) Route

Hiring a web designer can be ideal if:

  • Your time is better spent elsewhere in your business

  • You’re ready to invest in a more strategic, polished website

  • You want someone to guide you through the process

  • You’ve DIY-ed before and felt stuck, lost, or underwhelmed

Benefits:

Challenges:

Saves time and stress - I can get clients up and running in a matter of days

You get professional input on strategy, design and user experience

Higher quality results (with less second-guessing)

Something that you can then go on to more easily manage yourself, knowing it's all set up properly.

Higher upfront cost - but payment plans might be available.

You’ll need to communicate clearly and collaborate - but a good designer will make this easy! For example, I have a tried and tested process and organising is my super-power!

Done-for-you works best when you’re ready to elevate your brand, attract more clients, and want expert support to make it happen and don't have the time or energy to figure out how to use the platform you've chosen.

The Hybrid Option (aka the middle ground)

Not everyone fits neatly into the DIY or done-for-you box. Maybe you've alredy started building your Wix website and you feel it needs more polish - or you've simply had enough and want a professional to get you over the finish line?

That’s where flexible support comes in, and why I offer both done-for-you design and makeover options for women using Wix.

It's not unusual for people to spend time creating their own Wix website using a template. Often it is "adequate" but you're not really happy with it and you really need something better to show off your business and achieve your business goals.

I offer a selection of Wix website makeover packages and if your site is a suitable candidate we can give it a Peak Makeover!

Which path is right for you?

There’s no right or wrong answer. Just what feels right for you, your business, and your stage of growth. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to chat it through with you - no pressure, just clarity and friendly advice.

I offer a range of packages from website reviews, website makeovers to full design and build and monthly maintenance packages. Plus, many of the options come with interest free credit options (subject to status).
