Your website is often the first impression people get of your business, so it needs to reflect where you are now, not where you were when you first hit “publish.”
If it’s been a while since you gave your website some love, here are five signs it might be time for a refresh plus some simple ideas to get started.

1. You’ve outgrown it
Maybe you started with a simple site when you launched your business (DIY or on a tight budget), but now you’ve evolved. Your services have changed, your niche has shifted, and your messaging is sharper. But your website? Still stuck in version 1.0.
What to do: Start by auditing your content. What no longer applies? What’s missing? Look for ways to update your messaging, refresh your visuals, and reflect who you really are now.
2. It’s hard to navigate
If visitors can’t quickly figure out what you do, who it’s for, or how to work with you, they’ll bounce. Your website should guide people effortlessly to where you want them to go.
What to do: Test your site from a client’s point of view. Is your menu clear? Are your services obvious? Is it easy to book or contact you? Streamlining can work wonders.
3. It doesn’t look great on mobile
Well over 60% of web traffic is now on phones or tablets. If your site isn’t mobile-friendly, it could be costing you visibility, leads and credibility.
What to do: Check your site on your phone and a friend’s. Does the layout hold up? Is the text readable without pinching? If not, it’s time for a design refresh.
4. You’re embarrassed to share it
If you find yourself saying, “Just ignore the website - it’s a bit out of date, a work in progress” that’s a red flag. Your website should feel like something you’re proud to show off.
What to do: Even a simple homepage update or visual refresh can make a huge difference to how you feel and how your brand is perceived.
5. You’re not getting the results you want
If your site isn’t bringing in leads, enquiries, or sales, it’s not doing its job properly. The problem might be in the structure, the messaging, the user journey or all of the above.
What to do: Get curious. Look at your analytics, review your content, look at your competitors and get feedback. A professional website review can also help you pinpoint what’s working and what’s not.
